Founded in 1866 in Stuttgart by Jakob Schweizer. In 1872 Friedrich Wilhelm Quist (1831-1903) shareholder and manager of the firm moved the factory to Esslingen. After the death of Schweizer (1886) the company was bought by Quist and Robert Eisenmann working under the name Quist & Eisenmann. In 1890 Quist took the whole property of the company. FW Quist was succeeded in the property by his son Fritz Quist who continued to manage the firm until his death in 1951 (in 1936 the company was transformed in GmbH). In 1959 Gerd Quist, fourth generation of the family, entered in the management of the firm. After an unsuccessful attempt to take control of WMF the company went bankrupt in 1981. The trade name QUIST together with utility models, tools and machines have been bought by
Bayerische Metallwarenfabrik BMF - Nürberg.

The production facilities moved to Lüdenscheid in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1879, where the head office of the Gerhardi Kunststofftechnik GmbH is located still today
