Established by Henry Birks in 1879. The firm became Henry Birks & Sons in 1893. Incorporated as Henry Birks & Sons Ltd in 1905. The firm used the trade mark "Garb of wheat".
In 1925 Birks received permission from the London assay office to mark their sterling silver with a date letter that corresponded to the London assay office date letter. From this time most of their hollowware was marked with Birks Sterling (no serifs) and a set of pseudo hallmarks that included a sheaf of wheat (Trademarked by Birks), a lion passant, and a date letter that corresponded to the London date letter for the year of production.

H.R. Morss & Co., Inc. operating at the same address, 244 Broad, Attleboro, and with the same management.

Porter George Blanchard (1886-1973) was the son of Boston Silversmiith George Porter Blanchard. He worked in Boston with his father and his brother Richard from 1909 to 1923. He moved to California for his health in 1923 settling in Burbank where was joined in 1925 by his father George Porter and his brother Richard. In 1933 he opened a shop at 6605 Sunset Boulevard, to cater to a movie clientele becoming the silversmith of the stars. The Porter Blanchard Shop remained in business until 1993.
The B09 was the mark of the partnership with his father (1909-1915). This mark was used also by his brother Richard.
Richard Blanchard, who worked for Porter Blanchard Shop until 1930, was active until 1958 using a mark with his name

Henry Peat Buckley was born in Coventry, England, 1822. He learned watchmaking in England and immigrated to the United States about 1840. He was employed in New Orleans by the firm of Nelson A. Young, at 8 Camp Street. Nelson A. Young had been a partner of Edwin Whittemore in 1840, following the dissolution of Whittemore & Blair. After Young's death the business was managed by Young's widow until Buckley was taken in as a partner. About 1850, the firm title was changed to Young & Co., and eventually Buckley bought out the Young interest and operated the business under his own name. The firm of H. P. Buckley continued in the same location until Buckley's death in 1903.
